Yesterday saw me hopping across to Berkshire for a fabulous family-centred naming ceremony for the gorgeous Olivia.
As auntie to Olivia it was my honour to write and lead the ceremony, but it was important for me to ensure that everyone felt inolved, and so together with Olivia's mum Ruth, we created something warm, loving and memorable, and with some lovely commemorative moments that will provide lasting memories for years to come.
With 60 guests filling the space at the Beedon Village Hall, we had a lovely warm welcome, and I shared details about how a naming ceremony is a wonderful way to celebrate the arrival of a child into the fold, and to share time together celebrating.
We shared details of why her full name was chosen and had a wonderful reading from Mum Ruth. We had a lovely poem, after which family and friends all cheered to show their support.
We included a time capsule for Olivia too, and started this off by both parents, Adam and Ruth, putting their notes into a special box, which we would then add to throughout the ceremony.
We talked about Olivia's personality, the impact that she has had on the family, and how precious it is for her to know of the influence of her grandparents.
Families take on all kinds of forms, and there are many different dynamics, but to have grandparents as a part of your family is a gift, and to know of their influence and to gain from their experience and wisdom is precious.
Her grandads, Tony and Paul, came up to share some beautiful words, and we then welcomed Olivia's godparents, her Uncle Colin and Ruth's great friend, Natasha. I told of how much they mean to Ruth and Olivia, and both made promises to guide her and support her as she grows. Natasha shared some beautiful words too, and then before they took their seats, I presented them with Godparents certificates, and we asked them to assist Olivia in pouring some water onto a commemorative tree using a brand new watering can, which she can then use to nurture the tree as she (and it) grows.
As the godparents took their seats, Adam and Ruth signed their naming certificate, and little Olivia added her thumbprint, which we left on display for everyone to see afterwards.
As I brought things to a close, we officially welcomed Olivia into the family, and her family and friends all cheered and then came up to say hello, to add their notes to the time capsule, and then a buffet lunch was served.
Congrats to Ruth and Adam, and of course, the amazing little Olivia! We wish you all the love and happiness for your future.
